Florida State is red hot on the recruiting trail this week. The Seminoles landed three excellent in-state prospects in defensive end Tavaris Barnes (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast) and two prospects from Pahokee High in receiver De'Joshua Johnson and cornerback Merrill Noel.

Johnson was thought to be heading to Tallahassee for some time and he confirmed that in an interview with ESPN affiliate NoleInsider.com.

"I knew I wanted to commit to Florida State the moment I got the offer from them," Johnson said. "I knew they were the place for me."

Now the focus shifts to Under Armour All-American cornerback Lamarcus Joyner (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Saint Thomas Aquinas), one of the top overall players in the country. He could be making a decision as early as this weekend and all indications are he will decide between Florida State and Ohio State.

Johnson said he called his fellow South Florida star shortly after committing to the Seminoles.

Landing Joyner at this point would be huge for the Seminoles, who have been resurgent on the recruiting trail since head coach Bobby Bowden shook up his staff a few years ago and offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher was named head coach-in waiting. No longer can other schools attack FSU on the "Bowden is retiring" angle and the future head coach (Fisher) is allowed to go on the road in the spring and recruit (the NCAA barred head coaches from going on the road in the spring a couple of years ago), so prospects are developing a comfort level with the situation there, even with some of the negative attention recently given the athletics department as a whole with the academic improprieties and subsequent penalties handed down by the NCAA.

The Seminoles are also expected to have one of their best teams in years this coming season. An ACC Atlantic title and return to a BCS Bowl game can only help this class, which is on the road to being one of the better ones in the country.
